I really admire the work that Putniņa is doing: it’s recasting the American musical in a Latvian lens, one that starts Latvia on the journey to understanding the American musical. Whether it’s a kosher way of presenting the material or not isn’t really for me to decide. What interests me more is whether or not the American musical catches on in Latvia. We shall see.
